Even a minimal divergence—such as a tiny off-by-one error in rewards calculation—could cause different nodes to follow different chains, effectively splitting the network.
  • The Conformance Testing Barrier: To prevent this, a robust conformance testing suite is an absolute necessity. This infrastructure does not yet exist for Cardano and would need to be built and established as a priority.

Offering powerful, automated testing tools could become a key differentiator, turning a core engineering strength into a community-facing asset.

Learning from Experience: The Power of Testnets

This practical focus is reinforced by a proven strategy: the use of incentivized testnets. The original ITN and subsequent testnets like Sanchonet proved invaluable for uncovering issues—both technical and social—that were missed in pure research, allowing for a "make it fast, then make it correct" approach that delivers community-tested features more effectively.
